The Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) has launched an unmanned surface boat named Avdiivka.

`The first prototype in the batch of weapons that the Security Service of Ukraine introduced to participate in testing, is called Avdiivka. It differs from the previous generation, especially in appearance. This is an unmanned boat

The name Avdiivka is named after the fortress in Donbass that Ukraine lost to Russia last month.

Vasyl Maliuk, Director of SSU, said: `The future belongs to technological combat methods. Today, the Security Service of Ukraine is trying to become the first in this field and efforts have

Within the ranks of the SSU, we have trained unique experts in unmanned boats to further improve and scale the mission of pushing the enemy out of the Black Sea.

Like all unmanned boats, Avdiivka will undergo a full sea trial.

Brigadier General Hunter said the new suicide boat has been improved in terms of technical characteristics, better combat capabilities and maneuverability.

It is capable of carrying nearly a ton of explosives and has an attack range of more than 1,000km.

The UNITED24 platform is behind the crowdfunding effort to build 35 unmanned boats.

Ukraine began using explosive unmanned boats (USVs) in 2022 and they claimed to have broken Russia’s dominance in the Black Sea by attacking a series of Moscow’s warships and military infrastructure.

Experts say that cheap and remotely operated USVs give Ukraine an advantage in the asymmetric war against Russia.

While Russia tries to find ways to adapt to the threat from USVs, Ukraine continues to improve this weapon to stay one step ahead of its opponents.

USV attacks have helped Ukraine break Russia’s Black Sea blockade over the past year, even reportedly forcing some Russian warships to move further away from Crimea to avoid attack.

Last month, Ukraine said it had destroyed or damaged dozens of Russian warships since the conflict broke out.
