The US spoke up after the ICC issued an arrest warrant for the Russian military commander

(Dan Tri) – The US affirms that it does not influence all decisions and investigations of the International Criminal Court (ICC) regarding the court’s issuance of arrest warrants for two Russian military commanders.

The US State Department said on March 5 that Washington supports the ICC issuing arrest warrants for three Russian military commanders.

`We have received information that the ICC issued an arrest warrant for two Russian military commanders, Mr. Sergei Kobylash and Viktor Sokolov. The US supports international investigations into Russia’s activities in Ukraine, including the investigation

In addition, he also emphasized that the US does not influence all decisions and investigations of the ICC.

The comment was made after the ICC on March 5 issued an arrest warrant for Lieutenant General Sergei Kobylash and Admiral Viktor Sokolov, accusing the two Russian military commanders of `committing war crimes` in the Ukraine conflict.

The full details of the new arrest warrant will not be disclosed to protect witnesses and protect further investigations, the court statement said.

Lieutenant General Kobylash, 58 years old, was the commander of the long-range aviation of the Russian Air Force at the time of the attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure from about October 10, 2022 to September 9.

Ukrainian military intelligence said Russian attacks on populated areas in the city of Mariupol were conducted under the command of Mr. Kobylash.

Mr. Sokolov, 61, was an admiral in the Russian navy and commander of the Black Sea Fleet during the time of the attacks.

The ICC began investigating Russia’s activities after Moscow launched a large-scale air campaign against Ukrainian energy infrastructure from late 2022 to 2023.

According to the ICC, Russia’s attacks on Ukraine’s electrical infrastructure caused excessive damage to civilians when compared to any military advantage Russia may have achieved.

Western media estimate that Russia’s air campaign has destroyed more than half of Ukraine’s electricity infrastructure.

Moscow affirms that its raids are only aimed at military targets to reduce Ukraine’s combat capabilities.

This is the second time the ICC has issued an arrest warrant for Russian officials related to the conflict in Ukraine.

Russia considers the ICC arrest warrant `invalid and unacceptable`.

In theory, the 123 ICC member states are obliged to execute arrest warrants if the people named in the arrest warrant set foot on the territory of these countries.
