The US jailed the YouTuber who staged the plane crash

(Dan Tri) – The United States imprisoned a content creator on the YouTube platform (YouTuber) after he staged a plane crash to increase views for his channel.

On December 4, US authorities announced that a YouTuber who intentionally crashed his own plane to increase the number of viewers on his channel and then lied to investigators was sentenced to 6 months in prison after accepting a plea deal.

In a video of the incident titled `I crashed the plane to the ground`, Trevor Jacob appeared to have engine problems while flying over southern California in November 2021.

The video, which has garnered millions of views on YouTube, shows Jacob, 30, jumping out of a single-engine plane with a selfie stick in hand.

Cameras placed all over the plane showed it losing control as it crashed into the forest.

In the weeks following the incident, investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) conducted an investigation into the crash and Jacob was ordered to preserve the scene of the wreck.

Jacob told officials he was not sure where the plane went down.

`In fact, on December 10, 2021, Jacob and a friend flew by helicopter to the area where the plane was located,` the California Central District Attorney’s Office said.

`There, Jacob used straps to secure the wreckage, then the helicopter lifted and transported the wreckage to Rancho Sisquoc in Santa Barbara County, where it was loaded onto a trailer attached to Jacob’s pickup truck.`

The remains of the single-engine plane were cut into small pieces and dumped in trash in and around the Lompoc City airport, in an attempt to hide evidence of the crash.

The FAA then revoked Jacob’s pilot license in April 2022.

When investigators got involved, Jacob made a deal and agreed to plead guilty to charges of sabotage and concealment with the intent to obstruct a federal investigation.

Jacob’s original video and videos related to the accident have been removed from YouTube.

Many believe Jacob failed to take even the basic steps to restart his plane’s seemingly troubled engine.

Others pointed out that he could have easily flown the plane safely to the landing spot and that wearing a parachute while flying a small plane was highly unusual.
