The match between Sweden and Belgium had to be canceled midway because two fans were shot dead
(Dan Tri) – Swedish and Belgian players decided not to play the second half when they heard that two fans were shot dead on the street before the match in Brussels (Belgium).
Two fans wearing Swedish team shirts were shot dead just 10 minutes before the start of the match between home team Belgium and Sweden in the Euro 2024 qualifiers taking place in the early morning of October 17 (Vietnam time) in Brussels.
About 35,000 spectators in King Baudouin Stadium (Brussels), continued to cheer for the two teams when they did not know the news.

However, at halftime between the two halves, upon hearing the news that two of their fans were shot dead, the Swedish players decided not to continue the match and received strong agreement from the Belgian team.
A statement from Belgium said: `Due to the incident in Brussels this evening, the match was suspended. Our thoughts are with the victims.`
Sweden’s football federation also expressed: `Our thoughts are with the relatives of the victims in Brussels.`
The European Football Federation (UEFA) quickly issued a statement about the incident: `Following a likely terrorist attack in Brussels this evening, after consulting with the two teams and the police authorities

Swedish coach Janne Andersson told a press conference that the players were shocked when they decided not to continue playing out of respect for the victims and their families.
`When I went down to the break room, I received this information. Immediately, I felt it was completely untrue. What kind of world are we living in today?`
`I walked into the locker room and when the whole team started talking, we agreed 100% that we did not want to play out of respect for the victims and their families,` the Swedish strategist added.
According to The Times, the gunman who shot and killed two Swedish fans claiming to be members of the Islamic State Group (IS) has now fled and has not yet been arrested.
