Kommersant newspaper (Russia) on October 3 quoted anonymous sources close to the Russian presidential administration as saying that officials believe that at a conference taking place next November, President Putin may declare

However, Kommersant said there are still other scenarios about what President Putin could announce at the conference in November and the final decision belongs to Mr. Putin.

The Kremlin has not commented on the information posted by Kommersant.

At the Eastern Economic Forum in the port city of Vladivostok on September 12, President Putin said he would make a decision on whether to run for re-election later this year when the election date is set.

The Russian Parliament will set the date for presidential elections every six years after the presidential term is increased from four to six years.

Meanwhile, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that President Putin `receives absolute support from the people`.

`The president (Putin) has not yet announced his candidacy. But assuming the president announces his candidacy, it is clear that in our country, at the present time, no one is really capable of competing.

Previously, Mr. Peskov in March affirmed that the 2024 Russian presidential election would still take place as planned despite the conflict in Ukraine.

Mr. Putin, 70 years old, is in his fourth presidential term.

In 2012, Mr. Putin continued to run for president, and was elected for a third term with 63% of the electoral vote.

In 2020, after a referendum, Russia passed constitutional amendments, including the removal of presidential term limits, paving the way for Mr. Putin to stay in power until 2036.

In 2021, President Putin signed a new law that paves the way for him to hold power for two more terms, each term lasting 6 years, if he decides to run again and is elected.

Elections for a new Russian presidential term are expected to take place in March 2024.

If no candidate receives more than half of the votes, the second round will take place on April 7, 2024.
