(Dan Tri) – Russia began using a bomb with high destructive power to destroy Ukraine’s defense system, tilting the balance on the front lines in favor of Moscow.

The Russian military has gained an advantage on the battlefield by turning a basic Soviet-era weapon into a flying bomb that can create a 15m wide crater.

With a weight of 1.5 tons, this bomb is capable of leveling a 20-story building.

Faced with changes in combat tactics, the Russian army began to use more and more aerial bombs to destroy enemy fortified military bases.

The FAB-1500 is another example of how Russia is waging war in Ukraine, causing massive destruction across the territories.

Recent videos from the front line in the Donetsk region illustrated the immense power of these bombs as they struck thermal power plants, production plants and towers, places where Ukrainian troops coordinated defenses.

The FAB-1500 is aimed using a guidance system and its wings are then deployed allowing it to glide towards the targets.

Expert Joseph Trevithick, who wrote about the bomb’s development, said that the bomb `provides a new and more destructive long-range strike option for many of Russia’s tactical jets,

`Previously, we were only shelled. Now the Russian side has tried to gain control of the town more aggressively and started using air force assets, especially the FAB-1500.`

According to the soldier above, this type of bomb puts great pressure on soldiers’ morale.

The use of FAB bombs became a key element in the Russian offensive in the Donetsk region, especially in leveling Ukrainian defenses in and around Avdiivka, which fell in February.

Ukrainian air force spokesman Yury Ihnat said: `Before and during the Avdiivka battle, hundreds of bombs were launched in just a few days. There were 250 bombs of which were used in targeted flight.

The FAB-1500 is the most powerful of the Soviet-era `silent bombs` currently being produced on a large scale at a factory near Moscow, to turn them into cheap but powerful missile versions.

Analysts say that Russia’s production of larger glide bombs will increase Russia’s firepower along the front line, where fighter jets are continuously dropping glide bombs on Ukrainian positions.

`Russian forces used glide bombs in strikes for tactical effect in seizing control of Avdiivka in mid-February and may be attempting to replicate those effects to support operations

Therefore, Russia possesses very strong firepower to use on fixed defense lines, causing large casualties to Ukraine, although not enough to create a major change in the balance of power on the front lines.
