Ambassador Marc Knapper: 2023 is a great year for Vietnam – US relations

(Dan Tri) – In a speech in Vietnamese, Ambassador Marc Knapper assessed 2023 as a great year for relations between Vietnam and the US.

In a video released at the end of 2023, US Ambassador Marc Knapper summarized the Vietnam-US partnership over the past year.

The Ambassador said that General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and US President Joe Biden upgraded Vietnam – US relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership when President Biden made a historic visit to Hanoi in September.

The US and Vietnam are collaborating more closely on emerging technology.

Vietnam continues to be one of the leading countries in the number of international students in the US, with nearly 30,000 students.

Ambassador Knapper emphasized: `We focus on STEM education, efforts to modernize Vietnam’s higher education, support digital commerce and workforce development. Our two economies

American company Amkor Technology has opened a computer chip assembly, testing and packaging facility worth $1.6 billion.

The US has also been a partner in Vietnam’s environmental protection for the past 12 years, helping mobilize resources for forest conservation worth 1 billion USD.

The United States and Vietnam share a common vision of a free and open Indo-Pacific region.

Just this year, Vietnam welcomed high-ranking military officers and the US aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan, collaborating on humanitarian response initiatives such as the Pacific Partnership Program.

The US also provided equipment support with a total value of 8.9 million USD to enhance maritime security and prevent illegal fishing and transnational crime.

This year, the US started construction on a new embassy.

In 2019, the US and Vietnam reached an agreement on the location to build the US Embassy Complex in Hanoi.
